Formula One veteran Fernando Alonso has endured a difficult spell at Aston Martin over the past few seasons, with the team's fortunes yet to improve despite Adrian Newey's arrival.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the current F1 season, Alonso has spoken about several cars he would like to drive, including the Formula E GEN4. Following his latest comments, the possibility of Alonso joining the all-electric racing series after leaving Formula One cannot be ruled out.
F1 star Fernando Alonso includes Formula E GEN4 among the cars he would love to try
Fernando Alonso was recently asked which car he would most like to race and enjoy driving next. The 44-year-old F1 veteran told several media outlets, including RacingNews365, "I don't know.
Difficult to say. All of the cars are fun, you know. I drove the Valkyrie a month ago at Paul Ricard, and it was a fun car to drive and surprisingly fast at high speed, with a lot of downforce. They have Michelin tyres, which is obviously a plus, and you can drive flat out with no limitations: no overheating, no degradation, no tyre pressures going through the roof, all those kinds of things.
So, it's a fast and fun car to drive."
Giving another example, he added, "Dakar and rally cars in general are very fun because you're just dancing with the car. Any car, even Formula E. I think the new car next year, with four-wheel drive, seems quite fast from the tests they did. So, all cars are fast and fun, but Formula One is very unique and still the pinnacle of motorsport."
Where is Formula E headed next season?
Formula E is all set to introduce the GEN4 cars, which have already made an impression with their advanced features.
It will feature permanent all-wheel drive, the ability to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 1.8 seconds, and a top speed of more than 335 km/h. The car will produce 600kW (815bhp) of power and will be built entirely from recyclable materials.
Reigning F1 champion Lando Norris also got a close look at the GEN4 car during the Monaco E-Prix last month. Earlier, Max Verstappen had also expressed interest in trying a Formula E car, although he has yet to do so.The GEN4 car will make its competitive debut in Formula E Season 13, with testing scheduled to begin in November. Also read: Formula E unveils biggest-ever calendar with 21 races and new race format for 2026–27
