Faridabad Police register 705 NDPS cases in 18 months, arrest over 800; seize 207 kg ganja

Gurgaon: Faridabad Police have registered 705 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested more than 800 people over the past 18 months as part of an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking, officials said on Friday.The figures were released at the concluding event of the 16-day 'Drugs Free Haryana' campaign, organised jointly by Faridabad Police and the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau at the NHPC Complex on Surajkund Road to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse.According to police data, 467 NDPS cases were registered in 2025, leading to the arrest of over 500 accused. So far in 2026, police have registered 238 cases and arrested more than 300 people.During the period, police seized 207 kg of ganja, over 1 kg of charas, 2.219 kg of opium, 193 grams of smack, 171 prohibited injections and 2,953 banned tablets.The statewide campaign began in Sirsa on June 11 and concluded in Faridabad on June 26 after covering districts including Fatehabad, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Panipat, Kaithal, Jhajjar, Sonipat and Gurgaon.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Himadri Kaushik said combating drug abuse requires strict enforcement as well as sustained public awareness.

He said Faridabad Police organised more than 500 awareness programmes over the past year, reaching nearly 2.5 lakh people."Addiction can be overcome with firm resolve, family support and participation in sports. Families have a vital role in helping people recover from addiction," Kaushik said.The event was attended by students, teachers, principals, police officers and health experts, who discussed the harmful effects of drug abuse and measures to prevent addiction.Officials said the police will continue to combine enforcement action against drug traffickers with public awareness campaigns to curb narcotics abuse.
