Fighter jets were scrambled, and flares were deployed over Florida’s Palm Beach on Sunday after a civilian plane breached restricted airspace near US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, according to US military officials.
The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) said F-16 fighter jets intercepted an aircraft that entered a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate at about 1:15 pm (local time). “The aircraft was safely escorted out of the area by NORAD aircraft," it said.
Today, NORAD F-16 aircraft responded to a civilian aircraft that entered restricted airspace under a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over Palm Beach, Florida. The situation was resolved safely. If intercepted:

As per an official statement, NORAD aircraft deployed flares, which may have been visible to the public. “The flares were used to draw attention from or communicate with the pilot. Flares are employed with the highest regard for safety, burn out quickly and completely, and pose no danger to people on the ground."
Trump was at his West Palm Beach golf club at the time of the breach, CBS News reported. Air Force One, the president’s official aircraft, remained secure on the tarmac at the Palm Beach airport throughout the incident.
While NORAD has reported dozens of similar incidents in the area in recent months, Sunday’s intercept gained traction after a video from a Delta Airlines flight began circulating on social media, where a pilot is heard informing passengers of a ground stop due to a potential security breach, as per the report.
“They’re not sure what it was, but apparently there was a drone that came in too close to the airport. They had to scramble some helicopters to go and investigate that," the pilot is heard saying over the intercom. However, NORAD later confirmed the security breach was the civilian aircraft.
