Two Railway Police Head Constables averted a major tragedy at Surat Railway Station on Thursday, pulling a woman to safety just as she was about to fall beneath a moving train. The incident unfolded on Platform Number 1 when the Amritsar Weekly Express had already begun moving. In a desperate bid to board, a female passenger grabbed onto a moving coach. A fellow traveller at the doorway tried to pull her in, but she lost her footing and was dragged toward the deadly gap between the platform and the train. Head Constables Nitin Vasava and Anil, stationed on the platform in plain clothes, reacted instantly, sprinting toward her and pulling her to safety in the nick of time. The dramatic rescue, captured on CCTV, has drawn widespread praise.
