Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the ED to file an affidavit in connection with former minister Sujit Bose’s arrest in the alleged municipality recruitment scam by June 29.
The matter will be heard on July 1.Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Dhiraj Trivedi, representing the ED, sought time to file opposition. Justice Jay Sengupta directed ED to file an opposition by June 29.Bose was represented by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, questioning the necessity of the arrest, “What are the grounds of arrest?” The probe into the alleged municipality scam began following a high court order of April 21, 2023.
The CBI subsequently filed a charge sheet on June 30, 3024 and a supplementary charge sheet on Dec 30, 2024. It was argued that Bose’s name did not appear in either,” he argued.Bose is in custody for more than a month. It was argued that there is no allegation of non-cooperation. His counsel stated that ECIR was registered on May 11, 2023 but Bose was not summoned in the past three years. “Despite parallel investigations by CBI and ED, I (Bose) was never called in for questioning,” Singhvi submitted.END
