Lincoln City have completed a remarkable rise, securing promotion to the EFL Championship with a dramatic 2-1 win over Reading FC.

Needing just a point on Easter Monday after their Good Friday triumph, Michael Skubala’s side delivered in style — stretching their unbeaten run to an astonishing 24 games and sealing a long-awaited return to the second tier for the first time since 1961.

Late Drama Seals the Deal

Ryan One gave Lincoln the perfect start, but Reading hit back through Lewis Wing.

Just when a draw looked certain, Jack Moylan struck deep into stoppage time to send the travelling fans into raptures.

The result moves Lincoln 19 points clear of third-placed Bradford City, confirming an unassailable lead in the race for automatic promotion.

A Decade Of Transformation

The 10,669-capacity LNER Stadium, their base since 1895, will now be the smallest venue in the Championship.

But what they lack in size, they’ve more than made up for in ambition.

Rewind ten years, and Lincoln were finishing 13th in the National League, rubbing shoulders with clubs like Altrincham and Guiseley after dropping out of the Football League in 2011.

What followed has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Three promotions, an unforgettable FA Cup quarter-final run as a non-league side, and an EFL Trophy triumph at Wembley have reshaped the club’s identity.

After Wrexham, no side in English football has soared quicker than Lincoln City in recent times.

Record in Sight

Lincoln’s current 24-game unbeaten streak is already the longest across the English Football League this season.

But, more history lingers right around the corner for the Imps.

They sit among the top three longest unbeaten runs in League One history and are just four games shy of matching Luton Town’s 2018/19 record.

While promotion is secured, the job isn’t done — the Imps are now firmly in the hunt for the League One title.
