Srikakulam Deputy Transport Commissioner A. Vijaya Saradhi on Thursday has asked managements of all schools and colleges to ensure proper maintenance and fitness of buses and others vehicles used for transporting students.

In a media release, he warned that the department would take stern action against the managements that fail to send their vehicles for statutory safety inspection to the transport office.

Mr. Saradhi said that in the last few weeks, 291 vehicles out of 614 were inspected, and physical verification of all vehicles would be done by end of May. He highlighted that many buses failed the fitness tests. Managements have been directed to make the necessary repairs to those vehicles and obtain the No Objection Certificate from the department. He directed the transport staff to check each vehicle thoroughly and on issue NOC after they are completely satisfied with the fitness of the buses and vans.
