Five of a Chandrapur family perish as car rams stationary truck on Samruddhi Expressway

The car hit the container truck which was parked in a no-parking zone on the roadside close to Dhamangaon Railway

Amravati: Five members, including a 12-year-old girl, of a family from Chandrapur died on the spot after their car rammed a stationary container truck from behind on Samruddhi Expressway near Dhamangaon Railway on Sunday morning.The family was on the way to Akola, where one of the deceased, Arti Jivne, was supposed to assume charge at her new posting. The other deceased were identified as Arti’s husband, Bhaskar Jivane, 40, daughter Trusha, 12, father-in-law Mahadev, 65, and mother-in-law Latabai, 60.As per police, Bhaskar was driving the car when the accident occurred around 11.30am between IC-06 Outer, Channel No. 184 and Channel No. 185, close to Dhamangaon Railway.

The truck, which was carrying a consignment from Nagpur to Deglur in Nanded district, was parked in a no-parking zone on the roadside, said police, citing preliminary information.The impact was so severe that the front portion of the car was crushed and got stuck under the container truck’s rear portion. All five occupants of the car died instantly, said police.Dattapur police, highway police and district traffic police rushed to the spot.

With help from locals, police removed the bodies and shifted them to the rural hospital at Dhamangaon Railway for autopsy.The family hailed from Bahupeth area, near Govt College of Education, in Chandrapur city. Bhaskar was serving as in charge at Western Coalfields Ltd workshop in Bhatali. He assumed charge of the new post barely a fortnight ago. His wife, Aarti, a govt employee, was recently transferred to Akola. As news of the tragedy reached Chandrapur, grief engulfed the Jivane family’s relatives and locals.A case has been registered at Dattapur police station and investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, according to superintendent of police, Amravati (Rural).
