The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), Serilingampally Zone, and Amazon India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish five ‘Gig Workers Rest Stop Porta Cabins’ under Amazon India’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The five areas
The proposed Rest Stops, to be developed under Project Ashray, will be set up at Kondapur, Tellapur, Patancheru, Bharathi Nagar and Chandanagar. The facilities are aimed at providing gig workers with safe and accessible spaces to rest during their working hours.

Resources at the stops
According to the CMC, Amazon India will bear the entire cost of establishing and maintaining the facilities. The Rest Stops will be available free of charge to gig workers across all platforms. Each facility will include a rest area, washrooms, shower facilities, drinking water, lockers, charging points and Wi-Fi connectivity. The centres will also have waste management systems and will be powered by solar energy.
“Gig workers form an integral part of Cyberabad’s rapidly evolving urban ecosystem and Project Ashray is intended to improve their comfort and well-being by providing dedicated rest facilities,” said CMC Commissioner G. Srijana.
