Guwahati: Assam’s flood situation improved over the past 24 hours, with the number of people affected by the first wave of floods dropping sharply.The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said the flood-affected population declined to around 25,000 by Thursday evening from 48,452 on Wednesday.According to the latest ASDMA report, only Dhemaji and Dibrugarh districts remained affected. Dhemaji was the worst-hit district, with over 21,000 people still affected by floodwaters, though conditions improved considerably. In Dibrugarh, the situation remained unchanged, with 3,857 people affected.No river in the state was flowing above the danger level on Thursday morning, according to the Central Water Commission (CWC) bulletin.Relief operations also scaled down as the floodwaters receded. Four relief camps and relief distribution centres were operational across the two affected districts. In Dhemaji, 129 displaced people were staying in relief camps.The ASDMA report said 52 villages across the two districts remained affected by floods.Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura on Friday, and over Assam on Saturday. The Met also predicted hot and humid conditions at isolated places across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland in the coming days.
