A 28-year-old food delivery agent was killed after his motorcycle was allegedly rammed from behind by a speeding Mercedes car in Haryana’s Faridabad, police said on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Anand Raj Bind, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a private hospital in Delhi following the late-night crash.

According to police, the accident occurred around 2:00 am on the intervening night of March 29 and 30 near the traffic signal in front of the Fire Brigade Office in Faridabad’s Sector 15.

Bind, who worked as a delivery partner for online food delivery aggregator Zomato, was riding his motorcycle when the luxury car struck him from behind at high speed.

Bind and his bike were flung in the air several metres away due to the impact that left him critically injured. His motorcycle was severely damaged in the collision. The front left portion of the car's bonnet and one of the wheels were also damaged, suggesting a severe impact.

Originally from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, Bind had been living in rented accommodation in Faridabad for several years.

His family members alleged lapses in timely medical care following the accident.

He was initially taken to a trauma centre in Delhi but was reportedly denied admission.

The family then took him to Safdarjung Hospital around 4:00 am, where they were told the CT scan machine was not functioning. He was eventually admitted to a private hospital, where he died during treatment.

Police said the driver of the Mercedes fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the vehicle behind.

The car has since been seized and is registered in the name of a company.

Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the accused.

Inspector Rajvir, SHO of Central Police Station, Faridabad, said, "Police investigations so far revealed that the Mercedes car was on its way to pick someone up at the airport late at night. The car is registered in the name of a company." He added, "The (car) driver is still at large but we will arrest him soon."

Bind’s brother reportedly reached the spot soon after the accident and found him lying unconscious on the road, with the damaged motorcycle nearby and the car stationed at some distance.

With the help of bystanders, he was rushed to a hospital in a private vehicle before being referred to Delhi.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over reckless driving and road safety in the region. Police said further investigation is underway to trace the driver and determine the exact sequence of events.
