Police in Delhi have registered an FIR against an unknown person following a complaint of forgery by Union Cabinet Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s office about a letter bearing his signature and official letterhead circulating online.

An FIR was registered on Monday at the Parliament Street police station under sections of cheating and forgery.

This is based on a complaint filed by Sonowal’s Assistant PS at the station, alleging that the letter was forged “for malafide intent to cause political disharmony in an election-bound state” and “for causing disrepute to a Cabinet Minister”.
