Former Anna University Vice-Chancellor R. Velraj placed under suspension on retirement day

On his last working day before superannuation on Thursday, former Anna University Vice-Chancellor R. Velraj was placed under suspension due to a pending complaint against him.

According to sources, the complaint, which was filed during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, reportedly pertained to alleged irregularities in providing affiliation to private colleges.

Dr. Velraj held the position of Vice-Chancellor between 2021 and 2024, following which he returned to his parent department — Institute of Energy Studies.

Highly placed sources confirmed that the decision to suspend him was taken by the Syndicate.

After graduating in mechanical engineering from Annamalai University, Dr. Velraj did his postgraduate and Ph.D. in energy engineering at Anna University. He joined the College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University, as a lecturer in 1992.
