Former Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Nasimuddin Siddiqui, who recently resigned from the Congress, joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Sunday (February 15, 2026) in the presence of party president Akhilesh Yadav.

Along with Mr. Siddiqui, former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Anees Ahmed Khan alias Phool Babu, former Apna Dal (Sonelal) MLA Rajkumar Pal, former MLA Dinanath Kushwaha, and Danish Khan also joined the SP.

The Samajwadi Party president Mr. Yadav welcomed the leaders in the party fold, adding that their joining of the party will strengthen the social justice movement in the state as a leader like Mr. Siddiqui has long experience of fighting for marginalised communities.

Mr. Siddiqui has served as a Minister four times under the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government led by Mayawati and held many key portfolios. He also served as leader of opposition in U.P. Legislative Council. The fresh round of inductions is seen as a strategic move by the SP to strengthen its social base for the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections
