A few weeks ago, TMZ Sports spoke with Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke. They asked if Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who recently won an MVP at the 2026 NFL Honors, had earned SoFi Stadium’s first statue.
Kroenke replied, “Well, we’ll see. This guy’s something, isn’t he? Let’s go win one next year!” Rams Wire translated it to: Not yet.The outlet then contacted former Rams star Todd Gurley to discuss the same topic. When asked if there was any politics behind the statue, Gurley said, “From my understanding, yes.” He explained that the stadium also belongs to the Los Angeles Chargers, so if the Rams dedicate a statue to one of their players, the Chargers might want to do the same for one of theirs.
Todd Gurley says a Matthew Stafford statue outside the Rams facility could happen
Todd Gurley Explains Why Matthew Stafford Won't Get Statue at SoFi Stadium | TMZ Sports
TMZ Staff: “Has Matthew Stafford earned the first statue at SoFi Stadium? He’s the MVP. He has a Super Bowl.”Todd Gurley: “I think someone told me this: since they share the stadium with the [Los Angeles] Chargers, if they build a statue of anyone or they put them in the stadium, the Chargers have that same right to do that for their player as well, so I don’t think they kinda wanna do that.”Staff: “Also, there’s some politics behind that statue?”Gurley: “From my understanding, yes. So that’s the thing. Maybe Stafford statue outside of the Rams facility, ‘cause you know, Kroenke’s a big real estate guy too, so they kinda have that new facility down there in Woodland Hills and they’re about to build up everything.
Maybe one of them down that way because it’ll be like a Rams complex.”Staff: “In order to get one there, you’re going to have to get like three or four Super Bowls?”Gurley: “Man, you’re going to have to do a lot.” Stafford has only one Super Bowl [LVI] win.
Adam Rank of NFL Network picked Aaron Donald for a SoFi Stadium statue
SoFi Stadium opened in September 2020. Statues at the stadium are reserved for legends. NFL Network’s Adam Rank picked Aaron Donald as a deserving candidate for SoFi Stadium. His reasons? The three-time Defensive Player of the Year was a major reason the Rams won a Super Bowl after returning to Los Angeles. Aaron was one of the best at his position, perhaps of all time, during his 10-year career. He collected 111 sacks, 9.5 more than anyone else in the NFL between 2014 and 2023.
