Former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim was spotted in Doha witnessing World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz’s quarterfinal game against Karen Kancanov, just over a month after his sacking from the Mancunian club due to a string of poor results.
Amorim was in the stands watching the Spaniard move into the semifinal of the event with his win over Kanchanov in the event in the Qatari Capital City.
The 22-year-old Spaniard, who recently became the youngest player to complete the career Slam with his triumpoh at the Australian Open a month earlier, fought back to register a 6-7 (3/7), 6-4, 6-3 win in the quarter-final over Khachanov in the quarterfinal engagement in Doha on Friday.
Amorim managed just 15 wins in his 47 games as the boss of the Red Devils, drawing 13 and losing 17 times during his time at the helm of the celebrated club, which is definitely not up to the lofty standards of the joint-most decorated club in English history.
Amorim, who arrived at United in 2024, was given the boot at the beginning of the year on the back of sub-par showings which left the fabled side languishing at the midway point of the table.
Since Amorim’s sacking, United have appointed club legend Michael Carrick, who has turned the ship around in stunning fashion leading the side back into the top-four of the English top-flight with noteworthy wins over rivals Manchester City, and Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Untied stand fourth in the league with 45 points, one above fifth-place Chelsea, at the end of 26 games in the ongoing Premier League campaign.
United are, however, eight points behind the Gunners, who lead the table with 58 points in 27 games, with second-placed Man City hot on their heels and with the opportunity to close the lead at the top to just 2 points if Pep Guardiola and Co. can manage to get the better of Newcastle United in their upcoming fixture on Sunday.
