Former Tivim sarpanch quizzed over irregularities in Madel project

Mapusa: Colvale police on Monday questioned former Tivim sarpanch, Venkatesh Shirodkar, in connection with alleged irregularities involving a major project at Madel, Tivim. The inquiry follows a complaint that was lodged by the town and country planning (TCP) department regarding the development of nearly 75 plots.A police officer said that the TCP department flagged the project as illegal as according to it, no permissions or title deeds had been issued for land development in the area. The investigation started after a delegation led by former legislator, Kiran Kandolkar, submitted a representation last week, opposing the construction.

The TCP department subsequently prohibited further activity at the site.Shirodkar’s statement was recorded primarily regarding a no-objection certificate (NOC) that he had issued in May 2025 for repairing an internal road that connected the alleged illegal project. He maintained that the NOC he had granted was conditional, and that the land owner concerned was informed that obtaining other necessary departmental clearances before commencing work was required. The police have asked the Tivim panchayat to produce relevant documents in the matter. It has also requested a detailed survey report from the office of the Bardez mamlatdar.
