Four people, including a juvenile, were apprehended with 23 kg of marijuana worth around ₹12 lakh while allegedly waiting to board a private bus to Maharashtra near Haj House in Nampally, Hyderabad police said on Friday.

The arrested accused were identified as Amit Achutrao Kale, Seema Nitin Potbhare, both aged 33, and Arthi Maruthi Khandare, 27, all residents of Parbhani in Maharashtra. A juvenile was also apprehended in connection with the case.

The arrests were made on July 2 by the Charminar Zone Task Force in coordination with Abids police after receiving specific information about inter-state marijuana transportation. The team intercepted the group near Haj House and seized 23 kgs of marijuana, two mobile phones and ₹7,000 in cash.

During interrogation, police found that Amit and Seema are husband and wife and, along with Arthi and the juvenile, had allegedly been transporting marijuana from the agency areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra on a commission basis for the past six months.

Police said the group had travelled to the Araku agency area in Andhra Pradesh about four days earlier, where they allegedly purchased 23 kg of marijuana from a supplier identified as Govind at ₹6,000 per kg. The consignment was allegedly meant for customers identified as Aftab Afzal Khan of Parli, Meera Bhai of Parbhani and Amrapali of Parbhani in Maharashtra.

According to the investigation, the accused boarded a train from Visakhapatnam on July 1 and got down at Secunderabad railway station on the morning of July 2. They then travelled by autorickshaw to Haj House, where they were waiting to board a private bus to Maharashtra when the police intercepted them.

Police have identified Govind, the alleged supplier from Araku in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, along with the three intended recipients in Maharashtra, as absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them.

A case has been registered at Abids police station and further investigation is underway.
