Four of family dead after roof collapses due to heavy rain in Vijayapura

Four members of a family died when the roof of their house collapsed due to heavy rain and wind in Moratagi village near Almel in Vijayapura district of Karnataka on May 14 night.

The deceased are Gurunath Badiger, 35, his wife Jyoti Badiger, 28, and their children Kalamma, 13, and Keerthi, 9.

The victims had temporarily shifted to a rented house as they were repairing their home. Due to heavy rain and wind, the roof collapsed on them while they were asleep. All four were trapped under the debris and had no way to escape.

The neighbours saw the bodies on May 15 morning.

Fire and emergency services personnel cleared the debris and recovered the bodies.

Officials from Sindagi Police Station visited the village, inspected the site, and arranged for post-mortem of the bodies. A case has been registered.

M. B. Patil, district in-charge Minister, expressed condolences, and promised to visit the spot on May 15.
