Ludhiana: A dispute over a tiny ₹10,000 micro-loan escalated into an attempted massacre in Giaspura early Sunday morning when a young debtor and his gang opened fire on a local family, wounding four.The targets — local financiers Jasjeet Singh, 45, his wife Sarabjit Kaur, 43, brother Rajveer Singh, 40, and son Gurinder Singh, 21 — received horrific injuries during the indiscriminate shooting and are currently hospitalised. The relationship soured when Sagar defaulted on his monthly repayments for three consecutive months.The friction intensified last week following a verbal argument, culminating on Saturday when Sagar posted an abusive video directly targeting Gurinder on Instagram. When Gurinder called to confront him, Sagar demanded an immediate face-to-face meeting behind the victim's house."I rode there on my scooter at 11pm, and Sagar arrived in a car with several men," Gurinder told detectives. "Sagar stepped out and began arguing.
Sensing danger, I fled on my scooter, but they chased me and blocked me right outside my house."Gurinder shouted for his family, who rushed outside to protect him. Simultaneously, Sagar summoned reinforcement vehicles carrying armed accomplices. The gang immediately opened fire on the unarmed family at close range.Sarabjit Kaur was shot six times across both legs, Rajveer Singh sustained gunshot wounds to his head and leg, and Gurinder was shot in the leg.
Despite his injury, Gurinder managed to drag his bleeding family into a vehicle and drive them to the emergency ward.Sahnewal police station chief Dalvir Singh confirmed that an absolute attempted murder investigation had been launched. Police have filed an FIR against Sagar, his named accomplices Mani and Nikhil, and eight unidentified suspects under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.Detectives have arrested Nikhil and seized an operational getaway car, along with a replica toy handgun. Tactical teams are currently conducting coordinated raids across the state to track down Sagar, the remaining fugitives, and the lethal firearms used in the ambush.
