New Delhi: Four women, a five-month-old infant and a pet dog were rescued after the staircase of a two-storey house collapsed in north Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi area Thursday afternoon.According to Delhi Fire Services, the incident was reported around 1.33pm from House No.
2088 near Tilak Chowk. DFS officials said the staircase connecting the building’s first and second floors suddenly gave way, leaving the occupants stranded on the upper floor with no safe means of escape.Shortly after reaching the site, the fire department team informed the control room that several people were trapped on the second floor and requested additional manpower and safety equipment, including safety belts, to carry out the rescue operation.Additional rescue teams were then deployed to the building. Using safety gear and manual rescue techniques, firefighters safely evacuated everyone trapped inside.The rescued occupants were identified as Mansi (45), her daughter Anjali (24), Kavita (40), who is specially abled, her daughter Payal (21), and Kavita’s five-month-old child, Niru. The family’s pet dog was also brought to safety.Senior fire officials said no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. The rescued residents were escorted out of the building as a precaution and provided assistance at the spot. Officials said the cause of the staircase collapse is yet to be ascertained.
