The Chhattisgarh government has announced a major reform in its excise sector, with plans to introduce a fully cashless payment system at all liquor outlets across the state. State excise and commercial taxes minister Lakhhanlal Dewangan issued the directive during a departmental review meeting at Mahanadi Bhavan on Monday.

Officials said the move is aimed at easing transactions for customers, who often face inconvenience due to cash payments and shortage of change. Digital payment options will soon be made available at every liquor shop, ensuring greater convenience, transparency and streamlined revenue collection. The initiative is part of chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s vision of modernising and bringing accountability to liquor trade, Dewangan added.

TIGHTENING SURVEILLANCE

The minister also ordered the installation of CCTV cameras at all liquor outlets, with round-the-clock monitoring from the headquarters. He warned of strict action against illegal liquor sales and consumption at hotels, roadside eateries, and farmhouses.

CRACKDOWN ON ILLICIT TRADE

In a bid to curb illegal operations, officials have been directed to act firmly against the production, storage, transportation and sale of illicit liquor and narcotics. The minister called for tighter vigilance at interstate check posts and special drives to counter smuggling and black marketing.

REVENUE AND ENFORCEMENT FOCUS

During the meeting, Excise Secretary R Shangeeta presented an update on departmental activities. The minister also reviewed revenue targets, assessed ongoing work plans, and assigned responsibilities to ensure effective implementation of the reforms.

According to the government, the cashless system will not only make liquor sales more customer-friendly but also strengthen monitoring, boost revenue, and curb illegal trade. With tighter surveillance and stronger enforcement measures, authorities aim to bring greater discipline and accountability to the state’s liquor sector.
