US President Donald Trump has sparked fresh controversy after appearing to dramatically shift his stance on Iran within the span of just an hour, posting two sharply contrasting messages on social media.

In his first post, Trump claimed sweeping success against Tehran, writing, “The United States has blown Iran off of the map… Their leadership is gone, their navy and air forces are dead, they have absolutely no defense."

The statement suggested a decisive and complete neutralisation of Iran’s military and leadership.

However, barely an hour later, Trump issued a stark warning, signalling that the conflict was far from over.

In a second post, he said, “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS… the United States… will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS."

The contrast between the two statements has raised questions over the consistency of messaging from the US leadership. While the first post implied total victory, the second indicated that key strategic pressure points—such as the Strait of Hormuz—remain contested and central to ongoing tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most sensitive maritime chokepoints, through which 20% of global oil supply passes. Any military escalation in the area raises immediate concerns over energy security and wider regional stability.

This development comes amid heightened aerial activity across the Gulf, with multiple countries reporting drone interceptions and missile engagements in recent days. Defence analysts warn that such incidents could trigger a broader confrontation if retaliatory actions follow.
