From Kabir to Qawwali, a soulful musical journey through spirituality’s soundscape!

Curators Mahesh Babu and Nandini Mahesh call the festival a celebration of devotional and mystical art forms across generations.

This weekend, the city will host Ruhaniyat – Seeking The Divine, an open-air evening of spiritual and mystical music on February 7 at the Madras Race Club, Guindy, where age-old traditions come together to speak of peace, surrender and inner calm.Curators Mahesh Babu and Nandini Mahesh call the festival a celebration of devotional and mystical art forms across generations. “This fest brings together folk, Sufi, Baul, Qawwali and other traditions rooted in unity, compassion and spiritual seeking,” they say, adding that the open-air Chennai setting creates a deeper emotional connection with the music.The curators say these art forms remain relevant. “They speak about oneness of creation, compassion, surrender of ego and the transient nature of material life — ideas that continue to resonate.” The evening brings together traditions passed down through generations, keeping alive the words of saints, poets and mystics. “Performances include Through the Eyes of Kabir, Chhattisgarhi Kapalik Pandvani, Whispers Through Rainforests, The Melodic River Flows On, So Said the Saints of Maharashtra, and a Qawwali presentation by the Hussain Brothers & Group,” they inform.
