The Indian Army’s Southern Command reinforced both its operational preparedness and people-centric approach during a comprehensive visit to Gujarat led by Lt. Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command.

The Army Commander conducted an extensive operational review with special focus on the Creek and Kutch sectors, regions that demand constant vigilance due to their complex terrain and strategic importance.

As part of the visit, he oversaw the large-scale Defence of Gujarat Exercise, designed to test readiness across varied operational scenarios. The exercise validated coordination between multiple agencies, swift decision-making and rapid response capabilities in demanding environments.

Senior officers said the drill reaffirmed Southern Command’s ability to protect national interests across Gujarat’s diverse operational domains.

At Bhuj Military Station, Lt Gen Seth inaugurated a mega Surgical Eye Camp Outreach Programme, organised with support from specialist ophthalmic teams from Army Hospital (Research and Referral), New Delhi.

The initiative brought advanced eye care to remote and underserved communities. Over 2,500 patients from more than 120 villages were screened during the camp. More than 200 beneficiaries regained vision through timely surgical intervention and advanced diagnostics.

The programme highlighted the Army’s continued role in delivering quality healthcare beyond its core military responsibilities.

The Army Commander later travelled to Ahmedabad, where he and Komal Seth, Regional President of the Southern Command Army Women Welfare Association, interacted with and felicitated Veer Naris and Veer Matas.

The interaction served as a reminder of the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to the families of soldiers who laid down their lives in service of the nation. The event was marked by quiet dignity and heartfelt appreciation for the courage and sacrifice of the families.

The visit concluded with Shaurya Sandhya, a vibrant cultural evening attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The programme blended martial traditions with cultural expression, reflecting the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Performances included Indian fashion presentations by NIFT students using khadi, classical Bharatnatyam, and high-energy martial displays such as Jhankh Pathak, Kalaripayattu and the Army Martial Art Routine (AMAR). Together, the evening showcased a confident, secure India rooted in tradition and moving steadily towards Viksit Bharat @2047.
