The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has foiled a major terror module linked to Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and arrested eight suspects, seven of whom are Bangladeshi nationals.

The 10-day operation prevented a possible attack in Delhi and Kolkata, according to police sources.

The plot came to light after anti-national posters appeared at several metro stations, including Kashmiri Gate in Delhi, on February 7. The posters carried slogans echoing terrorist messages, prompting the CISF to alert the Metro Police, which immediately informed the Special Cell.

Additional CP, Special Cell, Pramod Kumar Kushwaha, said in a press conference, “A team from the Special Cell busted a module that was being handled by a Lashkar handler based in Bangladesh. A major untoward incident has been prevented."

Lashkar Handler Behind The Plot

The arrested suspects, Umar Farooq and Robil Ul Islam, revealed that they were directed by Shabbir Ahmed Lone, a Kashmiri terrorist residing in Bangladesh.

Lone, previously arrested in 2007 with an AK-47 and grenades, escaped to Bangladesh after his release in 2019.

“Initial investigations have revealed that he reconnected with the LeT leadership and re-established his organisation to carry out terrorist activities," Kushwaha said.

Follow-Up Arrests In Tamil Nadu

Further probe led to the arrest of six more Bangladeshi nationals in Tamil Nadu, who were allegedly part of Lone’s network. “He (Lone) reassembled his men and conducted dry runs with these men. He had posters put up in various locations. He did so not just in Delhi, but also in Kolkata," Kushwaha said.

Police stated the suspects were preparing to be planted in terrorist activities before they could act. All suspects worked in garment units and used fake Aadhaar cards to avoid detection.

Mobile Phones, SIM Cards Recovered

During searches, eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards were recovered, which are now being analysed to map the network and confirm foreign links.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the module was in touch with handlers linked to Pakistan’s ISI and Bangladesh-based extremist outfits.

Intelligence Inputs

Security agencies had issued alerts about a potential attack near the Red Fort after intelligence suggested LeT could target prominent religious sites in India. The sources said the operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs about a module suspected to be planning subversive activities in different parts of the country.

The operation comes in the backdrop of a deadly car blast near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which killed 13 people and injured more than 20.
