A week-old infant was received at the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare’s Ammathottil electronic cradle at Thycaud here on Saturday evening.

As the arrival of girl child coincided with the nation’s 79th Independence Day celebrations, she was named Swathantra, council general secretary G.L. Arun Gopi said.

The infant, who weighed around 2.8 kg, was given a check-up at the Women and Children Hospital, Thycaud. As her health was fine, she was shifted to the council’s adoption centre.

She is the ninth child to be received at the council here this year.

Any one claiming the child should contact the council within two months as her adoption procedures have to be initiated, Mr. Gopi said in a statement.
