Glitches hold up FYJC admissions on Day 1 of CAP

Pune: Technical issues marred the first day of the first round of Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for first year junior colleges (FYJC) across the state on Thursday.Students and parents, who tried to fill up part 1 and 2 of the online admission form in the morning, found an unresponsive screen when they tried to log in.

The screen flashed the message ‘application under maintenance’.

The Secondary and Higher Secondary Education department issued a circular in the evening, extending the deadline to submit the online applications to 6pm on Saturday instead of Friday.“When we tried to log in in the afternoon, the message was on display and that was it. We tried multiple times but it did not work. When such technical issues arise, the CAP committee must post a notice on the website stating that the technical issue will be resolved.

When there is no message, parents and students panic. All this can be avoided if there is more communication,” a parent from Pune said.An official from the education department said, “All of a sudden, lakhs of students logged in and the server was unable to handle the load. Hence, there was a downtime. The technical team worked on it and within 30 minutes or so, it was up and running again.”As per the new schedule, the first merit list will be declared on May 27 at 11am and students allotted colleges can confirm, refuse or cancel their admissions up to May 29.

The circular added that the vacancy list after CAP round 1 along with the schedule for CAP round 2 will be declared on June 1. Admissions under different quotas, such as management, in-house, and minority, will also take place as per the schedule declared on the official website.Till Thursday evening, 10.47 lakh students had registered on the portal against a vacancy of 21.58 lakh. Of these, 39,613 students have confirmed their admissions in the zero round held for seats under minority, in-house and management quotas.Appealing to students to register without delay, CAP officials further reiterated that SSC marksheet and School Leaving Certificate are not mandatory to fill the online forms.Students can call 8530955564 between 9am and 7pm or email [email protected].
