Goa police nab Jharkhand man on the run for Quepem theft

Margao: After five months on the run, Quepem police on Wednesday arrested Dipankar Kashyap, a 25-year-old Jharkhand native who was wanted in connection with a major theft and misappropriation case at a resort in South Goa.Kashyap, who was working as a trainee manager at a resort in Molcornem, Quepem, was apprehended at another resort in Candolim. The arrest was carried out in coordination with Calangute police.The case dates back to April 10 when the Quepem police booked an FIR against Kashyap for various offences committed during his employment at the resort. Police investigations revealed that the accused allegedly misappropriated over Rs 78,000 through fraudulent invoices, stole Rs 80,000 in cash from the resort premises, and made away with a motorcycle and a mobile phone belonging to the establishment.

The total value of the theft and misappropriation amounts to Rs 2.5 lakh, police said.The police were on the lookout for Kashyap since then.The breakthrough came when police received intelligence that Kashyap was staying at a resort in Candolim. Acting on this tip-off, Quepem police coordinated with Calangute police and nabbed Kashyap.
