Sri Sathya Sai district police on Wednesday arrested nine persons reportedly involved in 36 property offences under Penukonda police sub-division and recovered 40 tolas of gold jewellery and two bikes.

Addressing a press conference at Penukonda police station, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said that Noor Mujamil, a repeat offender linked to 11 cases under Gorantla police station limits, was taken into custody. Police seized 13 tolas of gold and two motorcycles from him.

In a parallel operation, eight members of the Arun Kumar gang from Pavagada in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district were arrested for their alleged role in 25 cases of chain snatching and night burglaries. The gang operated across Madakasira and Penukonda markets, and Madakasira rural areas.

According to the police, the gang was allegedly involved in cases reported in Agali, Gudibanda, Kia, Roddam, Penukonda, Somandepalli, and Parigi police station limits. A total of 27 tolas of gold was recovered from the gang.

Three special police teams were formed to track and apprehend the accused. Efforts are under way to nab another absconding member. Deputy SP Narsingappa and other police officers from Penukonda division participated in the press conference.
