Gold trader throws chemical at worker, wife over monetary dispute in Maner

In a shocking turn of events last night in Patna’s Maner area, a dispute over unpaid wages escalated dramatically when the owner of a gold shop reportedly attacked a local worker and his wife with a chemical liquid. Both victims suffered minor burns but are now recovering in the hospital.

Patna: Tension erupted at Paithan Toli area of Maner in Patna district on Tuesday night after a gold shop owner allegedly threw liquid chemical at a local worker and his wife during an argument over pending payments.

The couple suffered minor burn injuries and undergoing treatment in a hospital. Both are stable, police said.According to the police, the incident occurred around 10pm when the trader, Guddu Kumar Soni, visited the residence of worker Pintu Kumar, who works at his jewellery shop, to demand payment of an outstanding amount. The discussion soon turned into an argument, with verbal abuse exchanged between the two.

Soni then left the spot but returned shortly with four to five of his friends and again demanded payment.When Pintu refused to pay due to shortage of money, the situation escalated into a scuffle. During the altercation, Soni allegedly picked up a chemical liquid from his nearby shop and threw it at Pintu. The liquid also splashed on Pintu’s wife, Rajni Devi, causing burn injuries to both. The injured couple was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Maner police station in-charge Rajneesh Kumar said doctors have confirmed that the substance was a chemical and not acid. “Both victims sustained minor injuries. A case has been registered based on their statements and an investigation is underway. The exact nature of the chemical and the role of the accompanying men are being probed,” he said, adding the dispute arose over a monetary issue.
