New Delhi: Google has officially launched a dedicated Gemini application for Apple Mac devices, after launching a dedicated Google application for Windows. The company expands its access to the AI assistant beyond the web and mobile platforms.
This announcement was made by the Google Vice President Josh Woodward, who stated this application was built in under 100 days by a small team and is especially designed as a 100% native Swift app. Until now, Gemini on Mac has been primarily accessed through the web.
Gemini application for Mac is built using Swift, which means it is going to run natively on macOS instead of through a browser. Until now, users could only access Gemini on Mac via the web or via Chrome. In addition, there is quick access via keyboard shortcuts.
Users can also open the mini chat window by using Option + Space, while the full chat interface can be accessed with Option + Shift + Space. These shortcuts can be customized via the application’s settings.
This application also integrates with macOS features by including a configurable menu bar and Dock access. Google has also added the options to control how chats open, reset mini chat sessions after a set duration, and choose different voice options for responses.
Mac application also supports tasks such as generating text, summarising documents, brainstorming ideas, writing code, and analyzing images. It also includes screen sharing support, which enables users to offer additional context while interacting with the assistant. This application is currently available as a free download from Google and requires macOS 15 or the latest version.
