New Delhi: Google Messages has recently started releasing its latest Trash folder feature to help prevent accidental chat deletions. Firstly, it was announced last month that this upgrade replaces the existing Delete option with the dedicated Trash system.
With this recent change, deleted chats are now moved to Trash folder, where they are stored for the limited period before being permanently deleted. The Trash folder acts as the safety net for deleted conversations. Rather than disappearing immediately, chats are stored temporarily, by offering the users time to restore them if needed.
Users can access the Trash folder by tapping their profile picture in the top-right corner of the applications. This option also appears below the Archived section. Inside the Trash folder, the conversations are been listed alongside the number of messages they contain.
Once the users tap on Trash option, the application will displays the message by saying chats will be deleted after 30 days. This offers users a recovery window in case they delete something by mistake. On Android Go devices, chats will go to the Trash for only seven days to save storage space.
This feature will enable users to either restore chats or delete them permanently. With the single tap, conversations can be moved back to the main inbox with their full message history intact. If the users are sure they no longer need the conversation, they can choose to empty the Trash folder and remove the chats permanently at any time. Once the chat is deleted from Trash, it cannot be recovered.
If the conversation that is already in the Trash recieved the new message, the applications will creates a latest thread in the main chat list. This latest thread will only show the latest message, while older messages remain stored in the Trash folder.
