New Delhi: Google might have now started experimenting with the latest Pixel laptop, along with the hardware lighting feature called Pixel Glow. Some reports indicate that both of the developments are still in the early stages, but the references in the system files suggest that Google is now exploring the latest hardware categories as well as the visual interaction features tied to its devices.

This feature is internally referred to as the orbit, and light animations have now been branded as the Pixel Glow in Android 17 Beta 4.

It is also described as a hardware-based lighting system that uses the subtle lights on the back of the device to signal activity when placed face down.

Pixel Glow is especially designed to show visual cues for specific actions, such as incoming calls from selected contacts and interactions with Google’s Gemini assistant. This idea now appears to be to offer feedback without requiring users to look directly at the screen.

This feature can also be customized, with the users able to allow or turn off specific triggers individually. There is also a warning in the settings indicating that the feature might not be suitable for users sensitive to light. Pixel Glow in Android 17 indicates that the feature could unveil with the upcoming Pixel smartphones.

It might also include the camera bar or the Pixel logo on the back of the device. Pixel Glow is being developed for devices beyond smartphones. System-level references suggest compatibility with the desktop-class devices, indicating that the feature might also appear on the future Pixel laptop.

Google is now working on the latest Pixel laptop. Code references in the Android builds include the indicators for the desktop device types and icons related to laptop lighting controls. This might mark Google’s return to the laptop segment under the Pixel branding, following earlier devices such as Pixelbook and Pixelbook Go.
