New Delhi: Google is now preparing to do something more advanced. It has been reported that it is working on a latest feature that would enable its Gemini AI to take actions directly on an Android device. This feature, called “screen automation”, could let the Gemini interact with the application on the user’s behalf to complete everyday tasks. This might include actions such as booking rides, placing orders, and more with the supported applications. Google’s upcoming Android 16 QPR3 update is laying the groundwork for it. Version 17.4 of the Google application beta includes references to a feature called “Get tasks done with Gemini.”
And internally it has given a codename “bonobo”, this feature would enable the Gemini to complete specific actions on the user’s behalf by interacting with applications on the screen. This form of control is described as screen automation, and the groundwork for it is reported to have been laid in Android 16 QPR3. The reports also suggested that Google is clear about the risks. The company has been reported to warn that Gemini can make mistakes and that users are responsible for what the AI does on their behalf.
Users will be able to stop the Gemini at any point in time and take control of the task manually if needed. When Gemini interacts with the applications, screenshots may be reviewed by trained human reviewers and used to improve Google’s services, but only if the user has kept activity turned on. Google has also advised users not to enter login details or payment information into the Gemini chats. If the further warns against using the screen automation for emergencies or tasks involving sensitive data.
