Patna: Sports minister Shreyasi Singh on Wednesday said talented athletes from various disciplines will be sent to the country’s premier institutes and academies for advanced training.
“Coaches from the state will also be deputed to other states and national institutions to study best practices and modern training methodologies,” she said after a departmental review meeting.The minister said Bihar’s sports ecosystem would be developed into a modern, dynamic and results-oriented system to ensure better opportunities for athletes at national and international levels.Senior officials, including newly appointed sports secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, attended the meeting, which reviewed progress on key projects such as the proposed Water Sports Academy at Odhni Dam in Banka district and a shooting range in Jamui.Shreyasi directed the building construction department and other agencies concerned to expedite preparation of detailed models and DPRs so that construction can begin immediately after financial approval.She also announced that state-of-the-art sports centres would be established in Bihar after studying models of the Sports Authority of India. “These centres will provide modern facilities, expert coaching, fitness training and technical support, enabling athletes to excel at higher levels,” she said.
Singh said Rajgir would be developed into a major hub for national and international sporting events. “Renowned athletes and sports personalities from across the country will be invited, which will inspire the state’s young talent,” she added.The meeting also discussed implementing a PPP model for operation and maintenance of stadiums and other sports infrastructure. While private participation at district and block levels will be encouraged, the minister stressed that a transparent framework with clear SOPs would be put in place.It was also decided to showcase the life and achievements of Shivnath Singh, Bihar’s legendary runner and the state’s first Olympian, at the Khel Bhawan.
