Commenting on the Governor-government confrontation over the address to the joint legislature session, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D. K. Shivakumar on Monday said that the Governor could have chosen to deliver other parts of the speech and participate in the national anthem if he was not interested in reading out the parts pertaining to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
“Such issues will be there in a political system. The Governor could have just read the speech and participated in the national anthem. If he was not interested to speak about MGNREGA, he could have left that, and spoken on other issues,” Mr. Shivakumar told presspersons here during the Republic Day event at the KPCC office.
He said that there were lot of options before the Governor and there were precedents too in this regard. “It is his bounden duty to protect the Constitution. This is not only (happening) in Karnataka, it has happened in other States too,” he said.
