Harry Maguire Stays Put As Manchester United Reward Brilliant Comeback

Harry Maguire signs new Manchester United contract to 2027, extending his stay after a strong resurgence under Michael Carrick.

Star England centre-back Harry Maguire has signed a new contract with Manchester United, extending his stay at the club by another year. His current deal was due to expire at the end of this season. He joined United from Leicester City for £80m in 2019, a world record transfer fee for a defender.

Maguire has featured 266 times for Manchester United, lifting the League Cup in the 2022-23 season before going on to win the FA Cup the following year.

Maguire has put pen to paper on an initial one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until June 2027, with the agreement also including an option for a further 12 months.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It’s a responsibility that makes me and my family proud every single day. I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together," Maguire said.

United sporting director Jason Wilcox heaped praise on Maguire as well, saying:

“Harry embodies the mentality and resilience needed to succeed at Manchester United. He is a consummate professional who offers invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad."

After falling out of favour and losing the leadership under then-manager Erik ten Hag, Maguire struggled for regular first-team chances and was linked with an exit from Manchester United in August 2023.

A transfer to West Ham United was even agreed, but the move collapsed.

Maguire later saw his playing time limited under Ruben Amorim, before enjoying a resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick, starting all 10 games since Carrick’s appointment in mid-January 2026.

For multiple months, it had been evident that extending the partnership beyond the end of the season, when his contract was all set to expire, was in the best interests of both Maguire and Manchester United.
