New Delhi: Social media cheaters using Artificial Intelligence (AI) have gained extreme momentum, particularly in the remote workspace environment of Job interviewing. Fraud during job interviews is also rapidly increasing, using Artificial Intelligence, especially through Social Media, in the remote workspace. In recent times, the study found that the rate of suspicious activity noticed in online job interviews has almost doubled, and even many recruiters are now getting serious doubts that online recruitment is fair.

According to experts, AI tools are altering the interview preparation and attendance method of candidates. The use of AI tools for creating interview responses is a trend that, rather than augmenting practice alone, some applicants even use in their real job role of answering questions in live interview scenarios. These tools will allow candidates to answer coding, behavioral, and technical questions without giving the appearance of cheating.

Research revealed that more than 37% of job seekers displayed “suspicious” gestures during the interview process, according to job websites that reported the findings. However, in certain technical roles, it was claimed that the percentage of cheat could reach nearly 48%. A separate study indicated that approximately 60% of applicants aided by AI might still be hired even if the business fails to identify the modus operandi.

Interviews held remotely and on the Internet have seen the largest increases. Interviews will be conducted from home, which means candidates can use an interview finder, an AI voice assistant, browser extensions, or even earpieces to get answers whilst being interviewed. Some of the sophisticated tools can immediately provide solutions to coding questions or better answers during the interview process.

Recruiters are especially worried about technical and software engineering roles. For instance, interviewers can no longer distinguish between working and non-working code quickly produced or written using AI coding tools. For example, if the candidate uses an AI coding assistant to generate functioning code within a few seconds, they may not be truly knowledgeable in the problem, and the interviewer might assume they were. Junior candidates are also more likely to rely on AI tools than experienced professionals.

Companies are beginning to incorporate new monitoring in their recruitment process to combat this escalating problem. Various companies have now implemented artificial intelligence technology for proctoring with multiple cameras that monitor speech, eye movement, screen interaction, typing speeds, pauses, and response timings. These systems attempt to detect abnormal procedures that may indicate the need for outside help.

Some organizations are also implementing a form of identity verification and a ‘live’ check prior to the start of interviews. Training questions are becoming longer, and being followed with additional questions and solving problems live in the middle of the interview to see if candidates know the answers.

But experts say there’s not always been a simple way to detect cheating that’s assisted by AI. Make sure there are no false alarms, as nervous candidates might react in an unusual way during the interview. Another way to catch impersonators is to have a slow internet connection or not be able to speak the native language. Businesses also have to comply with strict privacy regulations before capturing the screen or covertly gathering biometric information in many nations.

It’s ignited a broader discussion about the hiring sector. While some believe that AI-assisted interviewing is ok since people are already using AI in their jobs, others hold a different perspective. This is where views differ: some think it’s okay for employees to also use AI tools during job interviews. Others feel that it gives an unfair advantage to the individual and enables those who are not qualified to obtain jobs they may not be able to fulfill at a later time.

As AI gets more sophisticated, interview processes are expected to remain evolving, according to hiring experts. Businesses will have to invest more in smarter detection and adaptive interview techniques to remain trusted in their recruitment methods. Meanwhile, there has to be more clarity in candidates’ expectations on what is possible with AI during an interview.
