MP Reviews Drinking Water Scheme, L&T Urged to Expedite

Hazaribag: Hazaribag MPManish Jaiswal on Saturday night reviewed the progress of the drinking water supply scheme known as the Konar project and asked the executing agency Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to expedite work to ensure relief to residents during the ongoing summer.During a review meeting held at the circuit house, Jaiswal stressed water supply from towers constructed near Hazaribag Lake and Charwa Dam in the next three to four months. He assured full support to the agency so that supply from Konar Dam could be ensured within one year.Officials informed him that one tower at the lake, three at Charwa Dam and all seven towers at Konar Dam were completed. However, some clearances related to the forest department and national highway authorities were still pending in the Konar project, they told him.

The MP said he spoke to the state drinking water and sanitation minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, senior departmental officials and Hazaribag DC Shashi Prakash Singh to resolve the issues at the earliest.Officials said the project aimed to connect around 56,000 households in the municipal area, of which about 22,000 already received connections. Once the first phase becomes operational by June–July, around 60,000 residents in nearly 12,000 households are expected to receive potable water from the Hazaribag Lake and Charwa Dam, they said.
