HC permits 2 accused in stampede case to travel to Rio

Bengaluru: By way of a conditional interim order, the Karnataka high court Tuesday permitted two functionaries of event management firm, M/s DNA Entertainment Networks, arraigned as accused in the the last year’s Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case, to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from June 1 to June 10.Justice SR Krishna Kumar passed this order after perusing the respective affidavits and itinerary placed before the court by Sunil Matthew and Kiran Kumar S. On April 30, the judge had directed the release of their passports, but they were not allowed to travel. They had claimed they are required to travel to Rio de Janeiro to attend international travel management events.Eleven people were killed and nearly 100 people were injured in the stampede outside the stadium on the afternoon of June 4, 2025, a day after RCB’s IPL triumph.Apart from the officials of DNA Entertainment Ltd, Royal Challenger Sports Private Ltd, and erstwhile office-bearers of KSCA have challenged the FIR and the consequential proceedings initiated against them, and the matters are pending.
