The Delhi police arrested three people after an unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed through a security barrier at the Delhi Legislative Assembly and entered the high-security premises. The driver, identified as Sarabjit Singh, was among the main accused taken into custody.

After his arrest, Sarabjit’s family said he was “mentally unstable" and did not inform his family about his destination or purpose. They said he had been missing from home in Pilibhit for five days and remained in contact for only one night after his departure on April 1, NDTV reported.

Sarabjit’s mother said there are times when his behaviour becomes difficult to manage, adding that during such episodes, he does not listen to family members and often isolates himself. “He is mentally unstable. He has been missing from home for five days. We ourselves do not know where he is," she was quoted as saying.

How The Breach Happened?

As per initial reports, Sarabjit entered the Vidhan Sabha premises alone through Gate No. 2 at approximately 2:05 pm by breaking through the gate at high speed with his vehicle registered under his name.

Adding to the tension, ink was reportedly thrown at the vehicle of the Delhi Assembly Speaker during the episode. Sarabjit allegedly placed a bouquet inside the Delhi Assembly Speaker’s car and remained seated inside the vehicle for some time.

Police intercepted him shortly afterwards near a picket in the Roopnagar area. Sarabjit was taken into custody along with two others, identified as taxi drivers, and the vehicle used in the breach was recovered.

“He wouldn’t even speak to us. He would just run away after abusing someone from his own family. He doesn’t let his elder brother speak. No one can stop him when he is like this," Sarabjit’s mother told NDTV. His family said he had a wife and son, but his relationship with the household had deteriorated due to his erratic behaviour.

A high-level committee has been set up to investigate the recent security breach at the Delhi Legislative Assembly, sources said. The probe will be supervised by an officer of Additional Director General (ADG) rank.
