The whole offseason fans have been hearing the same ongoing song about Jonathan Kuminga and his current home base - the Golden State Warriors. Kuminga and the Warriors have not been able to agree on a new deal so far, and October 1 is fast approaching to close the window for either parties - does he stay or does he leave? And if it's up to Kuminga, who was drafted to the NBA by GSW back in 2021, he definitely wants to leave, as he sees no clear future here.

Jonathan Kuminga was Joe Lacob's pick to join Golden State Warriors

In the year 2021, Jonathan Kuminga became the 7th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors during the NBA Draft. And according to a recent revelation, it was Warriors owner Joe Lacob, who was the driving force in bringing JK to the Bay Area. According to sources at ESPN:"Lacob has been a central figure in Kuminga’s NBA career since the beginning. Bob Myers was team president and Dunleavy’s assistant general manager when they drafted Kuminga in 2021.

They gave the collective green light, but Lacob was a driving force in the selection when others, including a few on the coaching staff, voiced a Franz Wagner preference."

Unfortunately, even Lacob seems done with JK now, given the extension offer the GSW sent his way is not what he was hoping for. But more than that, it's the inconsistent playtime he receives. In a total of 258 regular-season games with the team, he has started only 84 times, with his minutes fluctuating wildly.

Currently, Kuminga is a restricted free agent, and has been offered a three-year, $75.2 million deal by the Warriors, but he is not ready to return to that same drab motion of staying with them.

Jonathan Kuminga is miserable with Golden State Warriors

Jonathan Kuminga seems to be done with the Golden State Warriors. Many believe he was trying to stay loyal to the team who drafted him back in 2021. But having started less than 100 games in 4 years, with his playtime being inconsistent, he is now ready to take his leave and look for a place that can help him reach his true potential. According to Tim MacMahon:"He’s miserable. He doesn’t want to be in Golden State. He knows they don’t want him.

He doesn’t want to maximize his earnings—he wants to get in a situation where he feels like he can thrive. Whether you agree or disagree about his ability, his talent, he wants to go find out. He’s effed around long enough—now he wants to find out."

The 22-year-old player does have options though - the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns have both shown interest in taking on Kuminga. And he too, seems ready to move on from the Warriors to find a place that will help him nurture instead of hindering his growth, which many believe is what has happened so far in his career in the Bay Area. There are only a couple weeks left before the window closes on the trades - and fans will know soon enough if he is ready to sign the dotted line and stay or leave for good. Also Read: Paige Bueckers hooksteps her way through a guard of honor to receive WNBA Rookie of the Year award
