Kanpur: Residents continued to brace intense hot conditions on Friday, as the mercury witnessed a sharp rise, taking the temperature to 41.7 degree Celsius, as recorded at the CSA weather observatory.The minimum temperature also increased and settled at 28.6 degree Celsius, resulting in warm and uncomfortable night conditions for residents. Although the maximum relative humidity declined to 53%, it remained sufficient to create oppressive and humid weather conditions across the city.Adding to the discomfort, south-westerly winds blew at a speed of 3.9 kmph, further intensifying the sultry atmosphere.The city’s heat index too witnessed a rise and touched between 44 and 47 degree Celsius during peak afternoon hours, forcing many citizens to remain indoors.According to the India Meteorological Department, partly cloudy skies accompanied by intense humid heat are likely to prevail across all districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours.The IMD said that favourable conditions for the advancement of the monsoon line are gradually developing due to increasing atmospheric moisture.
In Kanpur Nagar, the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 40 degree Celsius and 41 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature may hover around 31 degree Celsius to 32 degree Celsius.The day is likely to witness bright sunshine with intermittent cloud cover.There is also a 25 to 40 per cent possibility of light showers accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas during afternoon or evening hours.Dr. S N Sunil Pandey said that due to increasing atmospheric moisture and enhanced moisture flow, the period between June 27 and June 30 is expected to witness cloud cover, haze and strong winds in the Kanpur division.He further said temperatures are likely to fluctuate marginally by one to two degrees Celsius, but humid and sultry conditions along with warm nights will continue.
