Heavy rain lashed Bengaluru on Friday, causing severe waterlogging and disrupting traffic movement across the city. After heavy showers, several major roads were inundated and vehicles were stuck in long snarls as intense pre-monsoon showers lashed the city.

A man was also killed after a wall belonging to the Vijayanagar Club collapsed during the downpour. The victim was reportedly sitting inside an autorickshaw parked beside the wall when it suddenly came crashing down onto the vehicle.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 46 mm of rainfall till 8.30 pm, while the HAL airport area received 20.8 mm.

Rain Activity Likely To Intensify

Officials said rainfall activity is expected to intensify in the coming days as the southwest monsoon advances further over the southern peninsula. Several videos have surfaced on X, showing the waterlogged roads in the city.

The evening showers caused severe flooding in several low-lying parts of the city. Waterlogging was reported on Kumara Krupa Road towards Shivananda Junction, Queen’s Road near Anil Kumble Circle, Vittal Mallya Road, and the Cantonment Railway underpass near Mehkri Circle. Flooding also affected the KR Market and SJP Road stretch, TOI reported.

In southwest Bengaluru, major roads along Mysuru Road, including Chamarajpet, BHEL Junction and Nayandahalli, witnessed heavy waterlogging, worsening peak-hour traffic congestion.

Emergency workers and traffic police were deployed at multiple locations to clear clogged stormwater drains and manage traffic flow. Uprooted trees were removed from areas including Kumaraswamy Layout, Vidyaranyapura and Outer Ring Road near PES University after roads remained blocked for nearly two hours.

The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity over Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka is likely to continue as monsoon conditions strengthen.
