Chikkamagaluru district administration has declared a holiday for schools in parts of seven taluks on Saturday, August 30, considering heavy rains in the district.

Meena Nagaraj, the Deputy Commissioner, in her order on Friday, stated that the anganwadis, primary schools, and high schools in Koppa, Kalasa, Mudigere, Sringeri, and N.R. Pura taluks, those located in Kasaba, Ambale, Avathi, Jagara, Vastare, Aldur, Khandya hoblis of Chikkamagaluru taluk, and the ones in Lakkavalli and Lingadahalli hoblis of Tarikere will remain closed on Saturday.

In view of the safety of the children, the district administration declared the holiday, the Deputy Commissioner stated, adding that the schools could hold classes on the coming holidays to compensate for the loss of working days.

Many parts of Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga continued to receive moderate to heavy rains on Friday. The schools in five taluks of Shivamogga remained closed on the day due to rains. The inflow into Linganmakki and Bhadra reservoirs has increased following heavy rains in the catchment area.
