Higher secondary teacher suspended from service

The State government has suspended Anoop V., a higher secondary English teacher in the capital district, from service pending an inquiry.

Mr. Anoop, a teacher at the Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School, Attingal, had been arrested by the Nagaroor police following a complaint in connection with his remarks against former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on social media. A case was also registered against him, a government order issued on Tuesday said.

The Principal of the Attingal school had complained that the teacher did not cooperate with the academic and other activities of the school and created hurdles in its smooth functioning.

The Directorate of General Education also received a complaint that Mr. Anoop took money from other higher secondary teachers promising to get them adjustment transfers. He also called for anti-government actions on WhatsApp groups, the complaint alleged.

The Thiruvananthapuram Regional Deputy Director, who conducted a preliminary inquiry into the complaints, reported that the complaints held merit and recommended action against him.
