A Tehsildar applied for leave, claiming to be unwell. While that in itself raised no immediate concern, what followed certainly did. The entire tehsil staff also went on leave, each offering different reasons. Some cited illness, others referred to family weddings. However, the real reason turned out to be entirely different. The entire group had travelled to Rajasthan for a tour. Their outing came to light when photographs and videos of their celebrations surfaced on social media, exposing the truth.

This startling and unusual incident occurred in Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh. All the employees involved are now facing serious consequences.

Accused Of Misusing Medical Leave

Deputy Tehsildar Indra Kumar of Majra Tehsil, Paonta Sahib, along with his staff, is accused of taking medical leave under the pretence of illness and then travelling to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan for a party.

Following the revelation, the SDM of Paonta Sahib issued show-cause notices to all those involved.

Social Media Posts Expose The Tour

According to reports, Deputy Tehsildar Indra Kumar and his subordinates applied for medical leave claiming they were unwell, but instead travelled to Jaisalmer for a recreational trip. Their plan unravelled when photographs and videos of them enjoying themselves were uploaded on social media. As soon as the matter came to the attention of SDM Gunjeet Singh Cheema, he ordered immediate action.

Those involved in the trip included the Tehsildar, three Patwaris, one Kanungo, three female employees, and another clerk. The Tehsildar reportedly cited high sugar levels as the reason for his leave, while the other employees provided various personal grounds.

Show-Cause Notices Issued

SDM Gunjeet Singh Cheema confirmed that show-cause notices had been issued to all staff members who were on leave, including Naib Tehsildar Indra Kumar, seeking their explanations. Additionally, an explanation has been sought from the Tehsildar of Paonta Sahib regarding how such a large number of leave applications were approved simultaneously.

The SDM stated that he had instructed all the concerned employees to share their current locations, but none complied. He further emphasised that such negligence and indiscipline in official duties would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Public Inconvenience And Anger

The collective absence of officials brought work at Majra Tehsil to a complete standstill. Villagers who had travelled long distances for official matters were forced to return without completing their work.

The incident triggered widespread public anger. Local residents have demanded the immediate suspension of the officials found negligent and called for strict legal action against those responsible.
