Videos on X show a deadly factory fire in China’s Fujian province that killed 28 people. Authorities rescued 213, arrested those in charge, and launched a probe into the cause.

Videos of a deadly factory fire in eastern China are spreading widely on X, showing the scale of the disaster that killed 28 people in Fujian province on Thursday.
The clips, some shared by Scope Report and others, show a multi-storey building in the city of Jinjiang engulfed in flames. Thick black smoke can be seen pouring out from several floors. In some visuals, the fire appears to move quickly across the structure, while later footage shows the building’s outer walls charred black and covered in white smoke.

News18 independently verify the authenticity of the videos.
The fire broke out at a factory owned by the Huiteng shoe company, according to the city’s fire department. Officials said the cause of the blaze is still not known.

At the time of the fire, 237 workers and two visitors were inside the building. Emergency teams rushed to the spot and managed to evacuate or rescue 213 people. However, 28 people lost their lives. State broadcaster CCTV reported that two of them were declared dead after being taken to a hospital.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an “all-out" search and rescue effort. He also asked authorities to quickly investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Authorities have already taken action. Xinhua reported that the factory owner and other people in charge have been arrested. The company’s accounts have also been frozen as part of the probe.
Jinjiang is known as China’s shoe capital, with a large number of factories operating in the area. The visuals now circulating online have raised fresh concerns about safety standards at industrial sites.
