Two persons, a house owner and a worker, died of suffocation inside a septic tank in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi city on Wednesday.

Accoding to the police, the deceased have been identified as Shivakumar Nandurkar (51), and a worker Ratan Hotkar (58).

The incident occurred at a residence belonging to Shivakumar in Madarasanahalli layout near Hirapur. According to initial information, Ratan had entered the septic tank to clean it when he allegedly suffocated.

When Ratan did not come out, Shivakumar reportedly entered the tank in an attempt to rescue him. However, he too suffocated inside.

After both men failed to return, family members raised an alarm and alerted neighbours. Upon inspection, the two were found unconscious inside the septic tank.

With the assistance of local residents and police, both men were pulled out and rushed for medical attention. However, doctors declared them dead on arrival.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at Ashok Nagar police station and an inquiry has been launched into the incident.
